Assuming a position onone side, a tombe strikes up and the friends begin a song in which theycommemorate the deeds of their ancestors, and highly eulogize the featsof the silent brave. He, meanwhile, keeps up a monotonous kind ofdance about four paces in the rear, to which his necklace and fringe lenda clattering, dry-bone accompaniment, whilst the malinchi, with hertinkling bells, glides in and out among the crowd. The malinchi at first dances along the line in front of him, and, by her gestures, shows that she is describing the war-path.
