VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (April. 08, 2017) -- Pre-Commissioning Unit Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) transits over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel as the ship departs for builder’s sea trials off the coast. The first- of-class ship—the first new aircraft carrier design in 40 years—will spend several days conducting builder’s sea trials, a comprehensive test of many of the ship’s key systems and technologies.
