An eight-flanged mace German or Italian, mid-16th century. Made entirely of steel, the head formed with eight flanges each rising to a point above the middle and brazed onto a core capped by a disc at both ends, the upper disc with a low pyramidal finial, with octagonal haft cut with a simple moulded band at the grip, fitted with disc-guard pierced for a suspension thong, and globular pommel (the grip binding missing, the disc-guard now loose).
