The Lord & Burnham Co. has fifteen men working overtime to finish the $75,- 000 conservatory for the Missouri Botanical Garden, which, according to the contract, must be completed Octo- ber 1. W. W. Ohlweiler says that the chrysanthemum show to be held in thei new conservatory in November will be the finest ever held at the garden. Other flower shows will be held dur- ing the winter months. The officers of the St. Louis Florists' Club spent a pleasant evening at the home of President Jules Bourdet, Sep- tember 16. This meeting was called in order to draw plans for the coming meetings of the club. Some valuable suggestions were made as to how to make the meetings interesting. It was decided to hold a meeting of the offi- cers prior to the monthly meeting of the club. J. J. B. WASHINGTON, D. C. The Market. Despite the intense heat last week, business showed a slight improvement. There was a better movement of flow- ers of all kinds, although not half of the stock that is received finds a sale. Roses showed the effects of the terrific heat, and of these the retailers bought only in sufficient quantities to meet immediate needs. Valley moved more freely. Carnations are improving in quality, but dahlias are not up to stand- ard. Th
