Generally speak-ing, barley responds well to a complete fertiliser, which may be obtained by mixing together 3 , 2 cwt. of kainit, and J cwt. sul-phate of ammonia to the acre, and applying itwith the seed.—Yours, &c, Rust his. Barley Prices. Sir,—In the Mark Lane Express this weekyou return all barley, if I remember rightly, at24s. p:r qr. This I can hardly accept, seeing inyour pricelists (B. and F.) of this grain there are. A Remarkable Tree, age 170 years, height32J metres (nearly 100 feet), circum-ference over 3 metres. thirteen different grades, prices from 37s. to 21s.,and yet the average price of that sold is only the lowest quotation. In speaking of oats you rather condemn thegrowers for thrashing so freely. Surely thefarmer knows best how he is situated and whatpays him best. The crop is a big one, making 9 to 10 qr., and to day 40 lb. new oats made20s.—\ours, &c, W. Fookes North Wilts Club, Devizes, October 17, 1907. Mark Lane Prices. Sir,—I take up your paper this morning, for Iam a grower of wheat, to find out the latest priceyesterday at Mark Lane. I also tike up the DailyTelegraph, and if you will refer to same, you willfind there is a 4s. difference in the price of is right ? Early last week we were sellingnew red wheat at 39s. per qr. in Essex, and themarket has stiffened since then.—Yours, &c., October 15, 1907. R. J.
