Among the most popular and beautiful of the greenhouse flowers grown from seeds are the choice Hybrid Calceolarias. The plants mostly grow a foot high, are bushy in form, and bear masses of superbly spotted flowers in clusters, the ground color white or flesh or gold, and the spots rich crim- son and other dark colors, well defined. The seeds are fine, and require some skill to start successfully, and the plants must have due attention. When well grown, however, there are few plants more beautiful or more satisfactory. The seeds I offer are of the best known strain, and are first- class in every respect. My mixture contains seeds of all the finer and more beautiful varieties. The plants are vigorous and very free-blooming, while the flowers are large and double, of all the fine shades of white, rose, scarlet and crimson, often finely striped and shaded. Sow in May and transplant to a sunny bed, setting eight inches apart. Early in September pot firmly in five-inch pots, water and shade till well established, then keep in a cool place, watered spar- ingly till in January, when a warm sunny window, and a copious supply of water will develop the masses of delicious bloom. Left in the open ground they will live and bloom the next season.
