The female is rather smaller than the male: the younghave the upper parts more rufous,, especially the borders ofthe feathers, which are also tipped with light bufl, giving adistinctly spotted appearance to the bird. The Woodlark by its slender bill and short tail standsalone among Larks. It is the type of the genus Lullula ofKaup, but there seems to be no real need of separating itfrom 632 PASSERES. ALAUDID^.
