Gilmour ft Hughson s large mill on the Hull side of the river is working on di- mension timber. The W. C. Edwards Company's mill has aNo staited for the season with a large gang of men. The Ottawa mill got down to business 1 his year about a week before the larger mil| at Rockland. Booth's mill is also run- ning night and day,the night gang having been placed at work this week. Over 1,500 men are now employed in the Booth mill and yard. A large burner is in course of erection. In it the tefHse sawdust will be disposed of. The E. B. Eddy Company's saw mill and the mills of smaller concern- in and about the city are all working on the season's cut. From present indications very little lumber available for present sale is likely to be carried over. The mill men are daily in receipt of inquiries from local and outside dealers, and the prospects for a rapid turnover of lumber in the yards are good. The Ottawa Transportation Company has got its fleet of 80 barges in readiness for the movement of the Ottawa and Hull mill cut. Shipments will commence early next week, and an extra busy season is looked for. The above company has a monopoly of the river carrying business. American barges carrying return cargoes of lumber have to get permission and pay for the privilege. Each of the Ottawa barges has a capacity of 350,000 feet of lumber, equal to 25 car loads. A couple of new barges will be placed in commis- sion with the opening of the canal on Mon- day. There is absolutely no change in the
