Banks, insurance and real estate offices andlawyers occupy both sides of the street for several blocks. The Postoffice and Custom House is on the northwestcorner of Griswold and Larned, and the Western UnionTelegraph office on the southeast corner of Griswold andCongress. Plalf a block west of Griswold, on Congress, is the officeof the Evening Journal, and one block west of Griswold, 26. )i ?/. on Lamed, are the offices of the Free Press and EveningNews. Two blocks from Griswold, on Larned, is the headquar-ters of the Fire Commission. Two of the steamers are kepthere, and half an hour or more can be spent very enjoy-ably in an inspection of the apparatus. To see the welltrained horses jump to their places when the gong soundsis alone worth the time bestowed. Near State street, onthe east side of Griswold, is Whitneys Opera House. No tour of the city would be complete that did not in-clude a trip down West Fort Street. If you start fromWoodward Avenue, you will soon pass the site of the newpostoffice on the right at Shelby Street. Old Fort Shelbyformerly occupied the ground in this locality. the corner of Second Street, on the right, is GraceEpiscopal Church, built of Milwaukee brick.
