Mrs. Durhams child was shotdead in her arms, at sight of which she fainted, andfell from her horse; the other, being unhurt, rode onand escaped; the men, being alarmed, fled precipi-tately, and escaped. While Mrs. Durham remainedinsensible, she was scalped, but reviving, escaped to aplace of safety, and recovered.
