Apsley George Benet Cherry-Garrard (1886-1959), British explorer and zoologist. Cherry-Garrard travelled as an assistant biologist on the Terra Nova Expedition to Antarctica that was commanded by Captain Robert Falcon Scott. His work in Antarctica included an attempt to obtain an unhatched Emperor penguin egg. Cherry-Garrard was not part of the group that attempted to reach the South Pole, but was with the group that found the bodies of Scott and his companions after they died on their return from the South Pole. Cherry-Garrard's memoir of the expedition was published as 'The Worst Journey in the World' (1922).
