If moisture is present the copper sul-phate will be dissolved, producing a blue color that willdiffuse through the oil if moisture is in enough copper sulphate is added to insure a sat-urated solution, the intensity of the blue tint will be ameasure of the amount of moisture present. As smallpercentages of moisture have a very deleterious effecton the dielectric strength of oil, however, the lightestshade of blue is sufficient indication that the oil shouldbe dried by filtering. It may be pointed out that other substances giving adeeper tint than copper sulphate may be used, the onlyrequirement being that they dissolve quickly in waterbut not in DESIGN FOR CAR OF LARGE CAPACITY November 11, 1916] ELECTRIC RAILWAY JOURNAL 1031 LONDON LETTER Review of Municipal Tramways Conference—8433 WomenConductors and 176 Women Drivers on Municipal Lines—Glasgow to Improve Car Lighting (From Our Regular Correspondent)In his presidential address to the annual conference ofthe Municipal Tramways Association, Peter Fisher, generalmanager of the Dundee Corporation Tramways, said thatalthough some authorities had been considering the matterof decreasing fares, present conditions provided ample jus-tification for suggesting that the existing low fares shouldbe so adjusted that the increased costs would be fully were 8609 women employed on tramways, 8433 asconductors and 176 as drivers.
