The Blew House on Dulwich Common, oneof the existing college boarding houses, has itsspecial interest, in that it does not belong to theCollege Estate at all, having been given by EdwardAlleyn in 1626 to the Parish of St. Botolph, Bishops-gate, so that the revenue thereof should be dis-tributed annually on his birthday to the poor ofthat Parish, where it will be remembered he wasborn. Its front door formerly opened direct on tothe Common, but, so as to give a forecourt or gar-den to this and to the adjacent houses, the road nowcalled Dulwich Common was made at a distance;and this forecourt, as well as part of the garden atthe back, is the property of Alleyns College, whichexplains the payment to the Estates Governors of aground
