During the War years, all the Butlin's camps were requisitioned by the Government. Clacton was used as a training site for the pioneer corps. During its occupation, the camp suffered significant damage and substantial repairs had to be carried out before reopened to the public in 1946. The Clacton camp was open until 1983 when the holiday camp was closed and sold – it reopened it as a short-lived theme park called Atlas Park. Atlas Park only lasted a year and the land was then sold and redeveloped for housing. This image is from an old amateur 35mm colour transparency.
