Testimonial to Mr. J. C. Colquhoun, of Killermont, 1868. 'The testimonial presented not long ago to Mr. John Campbell Colquhoun, of Killermont, in Scotland, a gentleman who has for many years, both in Parliament and out of it, taken a leading part in the advocacy of Protestant Church principles, consists of a gilt silver vase, enamelled with foliage and with the arms of his family, manufactured by Messrs. Elkington and Co. Mr. Colquhoun, who is the eldest son of a former Lord Advocate, was born in 1803, educated at Oriel College, Oxford, entered the House of Commons in 1832 as for Dumbarton, was afterwards elected for the Kilmarnock burghs, and, at a later period, for Newcastle-under- Lyne. He aided in founding the National Club, the Irish Church Missions Society, the Church Education Society, the Protestant Institute, the Protestant Church Association, and other institutions having similar principles in view. He has now, to some extent, retired from active public life; hence this compliment, bestowed on him by a numerous and influential subscription amongst his political allies'.
