In London Jin. wasfirst adopted as the width of the centre slot, but later this was increasedto I in., so that in this particular there is not much tochoose between the two systems. Fig. 7 shows asection of the London County Council track at oneof the cast-iron yokes. These are spaced 3 ft. 9 , every second yoke being now continued outunder the running rail which is fastened to it. Thereis no doubt that the extended yoke greatly increasesthe strength of the track. The slot beams weigh 60 lbper yard. The conductor bars are of mild steel,T-shaped. They weigh 22 lb per yard and are sup-ported on insulators at intervals of 15 ft.
