Yala National Park - Sri Lanka - 14 February 2014; Yala National Park is a large wildlife reserve in southeast Sri Lanka, lagoons bordering the Indian Ocean. It includes a wide variety of ecosystems including forest, grassland, wetlands and coastal lagoons. The park is home to diverse wildlife including leopards, elephants, water buffalo and crocodiles, as well as hundreds of bird species. Pre-pandemic, it hosted many wildlife safaris. Here we see some of its Asian Elephants (elephas maximus maximus). The Sri Lankan elephant is one of three recognised subspecies of the Asian elephant, and native to Sri Lanka. It is so good to see these wondrous creatures roaming free in their natural habitats. Here we see a special treat, a family group and new baby.
