Plastics research. Scientist examines a solidifying resin as part of plastics research. Resins are the basic starting material used in the manufacture of plastics, being turned into the final product by the application of heat, pressure, or both. Here, the time taken for the resin to solidify (the gelation time) will be noted. Resins which soften and melt when they are heated, and harden when they cool, are known as thermoplastics.
