( x cm), Paintings, Nicolaes Maes (Dutch, Dordrecht 1634–1693 Amsterdam), This painting is the earliest known dated work by Maes, who was Rembrandt's pupil between about 1650 and 1652. The composition was inspired by the master's etching of 1637, which Maes surpassed at least in the expressions of Abraham's concubine, Hagar, and the couple's son, Ishmael
