Child's foot. Coloured X-ray of the healthy right foot of an eight year old girl. The toes are made up of the phalanx bones (phalanges), two for the big toe (left) and three for the others. Metatarsal bones in the mid-foot (centre) link the phalanges to the tarsal bones. The tarsal bones include the calcaneus bone (heel, not seen). These bones articulate with the lower leg bones to form the ankle (bottom).
