Study the back of the hand closely—its shape;the color and texture of the epidermis; the shapeand length of the fingers; the texture, shape andcolor of the nails. Second. Note carefully the position of the mainlines; the size and location of the mounts. Third. The length and development of the phalangescannot be given too much attention. Fourth. Study carefully the position of the small linesand the signs on the palm. Be careful not to con-fuse the relation they bear to rest of the hand. Fifth. After you have carefully studied the hand tellthe subject just what you see. Begin with a di-agnosis of his physical condition; tell his inheritedand contracted weaknesses, physical, mental andmoral; advise him how to better his condition. 198
