Night sky over VLT telescopes. Nebulae and stars of the Milky Way in the night sky over auxiliary telescopes of the Very Large Telescope (VLT). Two nebulae (both red) are the Carina Nebula (upper left) and the Lambda Cen Nebula (centre right). The VLT, one of the most powerful telescopes in the world, is located on Cerro Paranal at an altitude of 2600 metres in Chile's Atacama desert. Photographed in October 2011.
