Commenced just over 20 years ago inthe smallest way as a general plantgrowing place, Poehlmann Bros. busi-ness has gradually reached its presenthigh position. Showing how the placehas been kept up to date it may be men-tioned that not one of the 80 or so largehouses now planted were standing sixyears ago. All are new and up-to-datein fitting and equipment, and in manyways they are unique. An excellent system of steam heatingis used, in which all condensed wateris drawn back to the boilers by vacuum. An Abnormal Cattleya. pumps. As a result the return steampipes can be taken overhead to the boil-ers, allowing the walks to be free be-neath so that cement concrete can belaid. This makes a really excellentwalk for the houses, lasting and clean, and the excellent system of walks isa notabie feature of this fine place. An-other great advantage of the vacuumsystem is that much less pressure isneeded to go around the very longlengths of pipe necessitated by moderngreenhouse construction. It is a splen-did and complete success, of whichPoehlmann Bros, are justly proud. The plant here is divided into twoportions, A and B. One of the finestcarnation sections, if not the finest, inthe world is included in plant A. Thereare: 7 houses 27 by 500 feet. 3 houses 27 by 600 feet. 2 houses 27 by 350 feet, 2 houses 27 by 150 feet. 2 houses 27 by 125 feet. This makes a total of nearly 250,000square feet all under one roof, all filledwith carnatio
