Thiswas written in connection with the chevaliersthird visit to America in 1793 : Duportail (French ex-Miaister of War) told me the namesof the French refugees who had formed in Philadelphia an arkof safety like that of Noah. The blowing up of the good ship, the French Monarchy, hadbeen caused by their follies, and the explosion had thrown agood number over to the United States.—They kept their eyesfi
