Army Reserve Lt. Col. Steven Khalil, left, a surgeon with the 847th Forward Surgical Team, packs the surgical cut suit with gauze with assistance from Spc. Gabriella Medina, 691st Medical Detachment, during trauma surgery training as part of Regional Medic and Warrior Exercise 86-21-03, July 14, 2021. Each cut suit weighs about 35 pounds and consists of a vest that is Kevlar-lined, with simulated internal organs found in the chest and abdomen. A cut suit is designed to simulate a variety of different injuries found on the battlefield and can be made to bleed when the surgeon cuts into them.
