A view of the town of Cadiar, Granada, Andalucia, southern Spain

Cadiar is a picturesque town located in the province of Granada with a population of around 1000. Nestled amidst the Sierra Nevada and the Contraviesa, Cadiar forms the epicentre of the Alpujarra region. The village derives its name from the Arabic word "Cadi" meaning 'judge' who ruled the eastern Alpujarra centuries ago. Although remaining a small town Cadiar boasts a few attractions including the museum, various chapels and restaurants serving local game, vegetables, homemade bread and a world-class vineyard.
