The signal controls a segment or block of tracks on the Union Pacific Railroad mainline that is shared by Metra as far west as Elbun, Illinois. Metra provides a network of lines connecting Chicago with its extensive number of suburban communities. The multi-track line links Chicago with Omaha, Nebraska and points west to Los Angeles.
