Thyroid-stimulating hormone molecule. Computer model showing the secondary structure of a molecule of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). Both beta sheets (ribbons) and random coils (wires) of the secondary structure can be seen. TSH is a peptide hormone that is synthesized and secreted by thyrotrope cells in the anterior pituitary gland of the brain. It stimulates the thyroid gland to secrete the hormones thyroxine and tri-iodothyronine. The production of TSH itself is controlled by thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH).
