Captive Himalayan Black Bear Ursus thibetanus/Selenarctos thibetanus at The Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, Darjeeling


Listed as vulnerable on the World Conservation Union's (IUCN's) Red List of Threatened Animals this bear is at Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park in Darjeeling. The zoo is one of the most highly respected in India because of its work with rare and endangered wildlife. As well as playing host to the Himalayan Black Bear it also houses Siberian tigers (the only ones in India), red pandas and Tibetan wolves. It also has a snow leopard breeding centre.
