A German horseman's hammer circa 1500-1530. The head of robust construction, with hammer of stiff-diamond section widening towards four points, formed in one piece with a beak-like fluke, tapering central spike also of stiff-diamond form rising from a moulded base extended to form a pair of straps, the upper sides of the straps fitted over the hammer base and the two parts impaled by a transverse retaining bolt with pyramidal heads, and on a later wooden haft with iron basal ring and spike.
