Goliath beetle. View of a Goliath beetle (Goliathus sp.). This is a pinned museum specimen. Its membranous hind wings are outstretched from beneath its hard, shiny forewings (elytra) which cover its abdomen (lower centre). Goliath beetles can grow up to 14 cm in length and, along with the Hercules beetle, are the largest beetles in the world. This tropical species belongs to one of the largest insect families, the Scarabaeidae.
