Figure XXXI shows seven interesting ceremonials and or-naments of slate in the possession of the Society. The rude efifigy at the top, to the left, is of thetype occasionally found in Michigan and the north. It is gen-erally perforated at each end of the base, something after themanner of bird or saddle ceremonials. The crescent-shaped ob-ject, perforated in the middle (lower left hand specimen) comesfrom Ashland County, Ohio, and was collected by Mr. H. It was undoubtedly worn as a head ornament and prob-ably tvpifies horns. The bar amulet, just over No. 8719, is 7inches in length, perforated at each end, and seems to have beenworn on the fore-arm.
