PALMISTRY The print of the hand of the prima donna, Madame Nordica, made by the palmist Cheiro round about 1894. The print is not of a particularly good quality, but it is of considerable historical interest. Towards the end of the century, an attempt was made on Cheiro's life, when a man attempted to shoot him. The bullet was deflected by a silver cigarette case, given to Cheiro by Madame Nordica. In this way, his life was saved. The print is from Cheiro's Language of the Hand, 1897: the story of the cigarette case is told in Cheiro's autobiography.
