Still further, as thesegroins or ribs are the supporting parts of the vault,so that all the intervening parts of the vault may, ifdesired, be dispensed with, if they are of sufficientstrength themselves not to be crushed by the in-cumbent weight, and if also themselves adequatelysupported, they may be covered by resting.
