Daniel O'Connell The Liberator 1775-1847

From an original engraving The Hume & Stafford history of England published circa 1868. As a campaigner for Irish independence it may surprise some to see this fulsome dedication to Queen Victoria, but O'Connell had assiduously courted (literally according to some rumours) her believing the young Queen could be a good advocate for repeal of the Union. Anyway O'Connell envisaged an independent Ireland with the Queen still as its monarch.
