Roman patrician Coriolanus favored the patricians and was banished from Rome. His mother and wife later begged him to spare Rome
According to tradition, the Roman patrician Coriolanus so favored the upper class that he was banished from Rome. When he helped the neighboring Volscians attack Rome, his mother and wife pleaded with him not to destroy the city (seen here). He agreed. Shakespeare based his play "Coriolanus" on the story.
