Indra, guardian of the east

Indra, guardian of the east, riding his caparisoned and bejeweled elephant Airāvata, which carries a garland in its trunk. The gold-complexioned god, whose body is covered with eyes, carries in his upper hands two vajras (thunderbolts shown here like a kris), and an ankusha (elephant goad) in the lower right. In the lower left hand he holds the reins of the elephant.
