WASHINGTON DC, USA - The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool blanketed in fresh white snow after a recent snow storm dumped more than a foot of snow on the area.
The Lincoln Memorial sits on the western end of the National Mall in Washington DC, facing directly east. It is at one end of the Reflecting Pool, a long, shallow water feature that, in still conditions, provides a perfect reflection of the Memorial. The monument is 190 feet long, 119 feet wide, and 99 feet tall. At the heart of the memorial, a larger-than-life marble statue of a seated Abraham Lincoln, sculpted by Daniel Chester French, captures the essence of the leader who fought to preserve the nation during the Civil War and championed the abolition of slavery. The statue is 19 feet tall and weighs approximately 175 tons. Engraved on the walls of the memorial are two of Lincoln's most famous speeches: the Gettysburg Address and his Second Inaugural Address. These speeches underscore the timeless values that Lincoln embodied and his enduring impact on the United States. Today, the Lincoln Memorial remains a popular site for visitors and a backdrop for various historic events, including Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous "I Have a Dream" speech delivered in 1963 during the March on Washington.
