Fingerprint scanning. Conceptual computer artwork of a hand touching a fingerprint scanning pad. The pattern of ridges on the tip of the index finger will be compared with a print held on a computer database. Rapid scanning of fingerprints could be used as a type of key, for example to allow entry to particular buildings or bank accounts. It could also be used, in addition to passports or identity cards, to verify a person's identity.
