Mangrove, the reigning winner, is formed of 110 players of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds. The band was established in 1980 by Trinidad immigrants who wanted to express their cultural heritage. The six bands in the finals practice their 10 minute piece in the street next to the venue where the competition takes event is the warm up for Notting Hill Carnival, the largest street festival In Europe, that starts on Sunday in London.
