After considerable manoeuvring, during which theenemy endeavoured to keep at long ranfie, she ran down upon theConstitution, discharging several broadsides, which Hull receivedwithout returning a shot, until five minutes before six oclock, whenhe commenced a heavy and well-directed fire. One broadside afteranother was fired with such quick and fatal execution, that in sixteenminutes one of the Guerriere*s masts was shot away, and her hull,rigging, and sails, were cut to pieces. In half an hour she surren-dered, every spar being down except the bowsprit, and the hull soshattered that it was found necessary to blow her up.
