Castrop-Rauxel, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany - Hof Emscher-Auen, the historic courtyard has been extensively renovated and is now a lively place for recreation, entertainment, information, integration and cultural exchange. Cyclists and walkers appreciate the idyllic atmosphere and special flora and fauna due to the quiet location. The Emscher-Auen farm is located in the centre of the large reservoir, the Mengede flood retention basin (HRB). The river Emscher is currently being renaturalised at the HRB and a new floodplain landscape for flood protection during heavy rainfall and for biodiversity is being created by expanding the area.
