National Folk Dance Ensemble of Guam from Merizo, Guam, performing at 26th Folkart International CIOFF Folklore Festival, folklore sub-festival of Festival Lent, one of the largest outdoor festivals in Europe. Festival Lent, Maribor, Slovenia, June 28, 2014. Inetnon GEF Pa'go is a program of the Guamanian Ministry of education that has been awarded several times and is devoted to the promotion of the Chamorro heritage through performance art. The Chamorro people were skilled sailors and craftsmen. Supposedly they were originating from the south-eastern part of Asia and are closely connected to the natives on the western part of the Philippines and Taiwan, who are all part Austronesian speaking people. The group members are devoted to preserving their own tradition and are presenting their community with the help of traditional masters. The membership in this group starts in middle school and the training lasts until the end of studies. The best of them are then selected to be representing Guam at the biggest festivals around the world.
