To start the Metropolitan 1898 loco-motive injector, the lever, part 292, Fig. 164, is drawn 36° LOCOMOTIVE ENGINEERING back, lifting the auxiliary steam valve, part 213, fromits seat. This allows steam to flow through the liftingsteam jet, part 224, into the lifting combining tube, part 225, thereby creating a vacuum in the suctionchamber, causing the water to flow through the liftingcombining tube, part 225, condensing the steam, thenout through the overflow valve, part 215, and throughthe final overflow valve, part 234, through the over-flow pipe to the atmosphere. A further movement of. Figure 164Metropolitan 1898 Injector, Sectional View the lever, part 292, opens the steam valve, part 206,which admits steam to the forcing steam jet, part 207,which is condensed by the water which is in the inter-mediate chamber and in the forcing combining tube, part 208, creating a pressure in the delivery chamberof the injector, which is sufficient to close the over-flow valve, part 215; and a further movement of the INJECTORS, STEAM GAUGES ETC. 361 lever, part 292, closes the final overthrow valvethereby turning the water from the overflow into theboiler, thus opening the check valve, part 210. Whenthe injector is working, the overflow valve is closed andheld to its seat by pressure equal to the boiler capacity of the Metropolitan 1898 locomotiveinjector is regulated by increasing or decreasing theamount of stea
