The Clock Gate Tower in Youghal, County Cork, Ireland built in 1777, on the site of Trinity Castle, part of the town's fortifications. It was used as a prison during the rebellion of 1798, with the military hanging suspects from a pole lashed from the lower windows to the corner of the first house on South Main Street. The Clock Gate served the town as gaol and public gallows until 1837. Photograph by Ellen O'Connor (1874-1943) in 1935.
