DIEGO (March 13, 2019) – Religious Programs Specialist 2nd Class Derrius Tyler, from Griffin, Ga., assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), competes in a free-throw basketball competition hosted by the ship’s Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) at the Harborside Gym on Naval Base San Diego. Tyler placed first in the competition. MWR sponsors a wide variety of sporting events to promote health, fitness, and fun competition among Sailors. Makin Island, homeported in San Diego, is conducting a depot-level maintenance availability.
