Ships Ribs of a FREDONIA-type schooner are exposed during reconstruction

The successful fishing schooner design of the Fredonia of 1889 was an improvement on the earlier shallow (and somewhat unstable) Gloucester clippers of the 1850s-80s; the vessel had a sharp, clipper bow, elliptical transom, fine sharp lines, a lofty rig, and a deep draft that brought speed under sail. As an offshore design, the Fredonia hull, served well as a stable platform for deepwater voyages.
