The 'Southend Shakedown' was for many years a regular Easter Bank Holiday Monday gathering at the seafront location attracting many thousands of motorcycles for their first big ride-out of the year - hence 'shakedown'. Official events ended a number of years previously due to costs although unofficial gatherings had continued, sometimes despite council attempts to stop them. A new volunteer team have taken the helm for 2019 hoping to kick start a new era for the event - Southend Shakedown Resurrection
