Probably late 11th century, the ruined church in the middel distance is dedicated to St Martin, Bishop of Tours and missionary to Gaul, and one of the fathers of monasticism. . The church was partly destroyed in the 16th century during Henry VIII's suppression of the monasteries - in this case St Benet's north east of Norwich,- and although it continued in use, it had been abandoned by the beginning of the 19th century.
