Fort Davis, Texas - Officers' Row at Fort Davis National Historic Site. Named after Secretary of War Jefferson Davis, who became president of the Confederate States during the Civil War, the fort was opened in 1854 and closed in 1891. The African-American "Buffalo Soldiers" served at Fort Davis from 1867 to 1885.
